When writers get it wrong

Sometimes as writers we come up with what seems like a clever idea, but other people read something else into it …¬†Several years ago there was a radio ad in Canberra for a builder by the name of Jaydoug. I wouldn’t normally name and shame, but the name is important to the story. The voice on the ad said ‘Jaywalking: crossing the street your way. Jaydoug: building a house your way’. My first response to this was always ‘What? Illegally?’

Probably not what the writer of the ad wanted listeners to think of, but it shows why it’s important to check things with several people with different backgrounds and experiences whenever possible.
